Orange Blossom SpecialThis is a very unique story of a recording made by George Eide and Roy Burcher (Big Bubba) of the Cardinal State Harmonica Club, and also members of S.P.A.H. and the B.S.H.C.As Roy’s health had been deteriorating, George suggested making this recording including in particular, the Orange Blossom Special. George wanted the sound of a real train whistle with wheels running down the track to be heard in the background of this recording of the Orange Blossom Special. During the same period of time that George and Roy were planning for their recording of this song, Roy appeared in a Lion’s Club Minstrel Show, and played the Orange Blossom Special. Unbeknownst to either Roy or George, a man named Stan Stahlmaker was in the audience at that Lion’s Club Show . Stan told them later that he had had visions about this train coming down the track, and after three sleepless nights and searching the library for a picture of the original Orange Blossom Special, he had decided to paint a portrait of Big Bubba with the 876 Orange Blossom Special coming down the track in the background. It’s kind of ironic that Stan felt compelled to do this portrait at the same time that George was doing the same thing with the sound background for the tape. We think you will enjoy this easy listening recording. Roy Burcher was a five-time winner in the National Country Music Competition, Miscellaneous Category, and was the Instrumental Winner in the All Army Festival of Performing Arts, held on 17 Army bases throughout the United States. Roy also was Ohio State Country Music Champion and was a winner in the World Championship in Helmond, Holland, Europe. |
